ITRI pushes LED and OLED innovations to open up new blue ocean lighting industry

ITRI exhibited a number of OLED and LED smart lighting innovation applications at the Taiwan International Lighting Technology Exhibition in Taiwan in 2018 on the 25th from the 25th, including "Flexible OLED technology" and "Light health vitality module", "Failure return smart LED "Lighting" and other technologies, to create a new generation of lighting environment, pushing LED and OLED innovation technology and applications, to create new applications for the next generation of lighting, especially in advanced OLED lighting process, ITRI has a complete development of energy and mass production technology With the roll-to-roll production method independently researched and developed, it will significantly shorten the processing time and increase production capacity, and help Taiwanese lighting companies explore new blue oceans and create diversified smart lighting values.

Wu Zhiyi, director of the Institute of Electronics and Optoelectronics Research, ITRI pointed out that with the advancement of OLED materials and processes, the cost of OLED technology has dropped drastically, and related applications have also become more expensive. ITRI has complete OLED lighting development energy and trial production capacity, including customized design capabilities to meet customer needs, and an entire roll-to-roll test production solution to solve cost problems, successfully introducing new high-end FOLED products. Overcome the high difficulty issues such as flexible substrate transfer, roll-to-roll process integration, and soft light source system design for roll-to-roll processes, and drastically reduce current manufacturing processes and costs. It is expected that it can reach 50,000-month-month capacity at the end of the year and can Assist the industry in the customization of OLED lighting and spread its innovative capabilities to new field applications. This technology has currently cooperated with 14 design lighting manufacturers, 15 schools, and 9 commercial transfer fields in China. This year it is with 6 other manufacturers including Dibao, Jingchang, Yadiou, Yudan, Baochuang and Zhangmalong. Chen Yulin, Associate Architects, and other companies jointly collaborate on car lights, drives, and shape design to accelerate the promotion of OLED lighting in China.

ITRI’s “OLED Lighting Theme Pavilion” takes the theme of smart living home lighting as its theme, displaying various applications of FOLED technology. In the past, OLED was mainly developed on glass substrates, while “FOLED” developed by ITRI used soft board technology. With a weight of only 10.7 grams and a thickness of less than 0.5 millimeters (mm), the flexible, lightweight properties make OLEDs more widely available in the future. At the scene, we can see the lighting artwork combined with palm trees and the situational benefits, home furnishings and car lights applications for parent-child interaction.

ITRI’s “LED Light and Health Theme Pavilion”, an LED tunable spectrum illumination module, is a multi-color, multi-color dimmable luminaire designed to mix white light at a specific wavelength to provide circadian rhythm-friendly health care. The effect is in general lighting. Simply put, using the LED tunable spectral illumination module, although the white light with the same color temperature is seen with the naked eye, the proportion of red, blue, and green light in the head is different. Therefore, the inhibition of melatonin in the human body is also different. In order to achieve this, people can unknowingly affect people's day and night.

Wu Zhiyi stated that with the maturity of LED technology development, the application scope of LED lighting market has also gradually expanded. Unlike past LED lighting research and development, which always focuses on improving the efficiency, at this stage, it tends to increase the added value, that is, from the lighting itself. From technology research and development to systematic integration and intelligentization, taking the office as an example, the focus is on making the lighting comfortable and saving power while ensuring the efficiency and health of workers. ITRI hopes to combine the advantages of both LED and ICT, and introduce innovative thinking on a solid foundation to help Taiwan's lighting industry break away from the price-competitive Red Sea and embrace the Blue Ocean space.

According to Hu Yaozu, director of the Institute of Green Energy and Environment of the Industrial Technology Research Institute, the ITRI has long been engaged in a number of technological developments in the field of smart and efficient lighting, and actively promoted the quality and benefits of LED lighting. At the same time, Smart LED lighting with failed automatic return was also released, which allowed the maintenance progress of the lamps to be more rapid and smooth, and also improved customer satisfaction and product image, achieving a win-win situation for both managers and users. In addition, in enhancing the lighting performance of LED lights, ITRI has also developed ultra-high power LED lighting technology with manufacturers, and it has now been applied to the first sports field in Hsinchu County. While saving electricity, the illuminance is more than doubled and the lighting uniformity is better.

The Institute of ITRI created the “Theme of Life-saving Smart Light Environment” under the support of the Energy Bureau of the Ministry of Economy, and exhibited a smart LED power supply with failure detection and reporting functions. Now it has transferred technology to Joachim Co., Ltd., with low costs. , low power consumption, high security and reliability, and convenient and multi-advantage communication technologies constitute a set of failure-return intelligent LED lighting control system. After the development of this technology, without additional sensors, the system can immediately self-detect the status of the fixtures and return the status values of the fixtures to the managers and vendors, in order to strive for maintenance efficiency and reduce the cost of human maintenance.
